Miguel was born is Mexico City, Mexico. He got his PhD at the Institute of Biotecnology of the National University of Mexico (UNAM) working in Alejandra Covarrubias’ laboratory, and later he joined Dr. Andrzej Wierzbicki’s lab at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor as a postdoc. Since August 2023 he started a research group at the Department of Biochemistry of the School of Chemistry (Facultad de Química) at UNAM. Miguel is engaged to a more diverse science and welcomes people from any background to collaborate. He is part of #500QueerScientists to give visibility to the LGBT+ community in STEM. His main role in the lab is keeping the coffee machine running and complaining with the administrative office. He hates his first name, but loves playing videogames, programing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
